Skivers

Sheep-skin skivers are made mostly from English and New Zeland skins.

Skivers are commonly used for bookbinding and small leather goods. Most Skivers have an exceptionally clean finish so they are also used in the fashion industry for garments and handbags linings.

Excerpts from "Arts of Tanning and Currying" published in 1852 by Campbell Morfit

Skivers: This kind of leather is made from sheepskin split in two, while in the state of pelt, by machinery.
The extreme thickness of a sheep-skin renders necessary a peculiar apparatus and nice manipulation for its bisection. The vibrating knife and rollers may be so arranged as to give an equal thickness to both sections of the skin, or a greater thickness to one side than to other as may be decided.

This kind of leather is used for hat-linings, pocket books , hat-linings and box covers and like purposes.
